A very large reasonably level, and grassy camping area right on the Calliope River.

There is plenty of room for caravans, and often plenty of them. You can camp on both sides of the river, but last time I was here, the old bridge was closed. You will need to use the Bruce Highway to get to the other side.

There is a 48 hour maximum stay.

Being so close to Gladstone, it is a popular spot on weekends and you may get the odd young local having a beer or two (and making a racket).

Fishing

This is a great river for fishing and there is a concrete boat ramp right next to the old bridge. Barramundi, Bannana Prawns, crabs and Mangrove Jack with some large fish having been caught here. Keep your eye out though and be sensible as the large lizards lurk (crocodiles).

We have had reports the toilets have been closed off, and that camping is restricted to self contained campers.
