A beautiful little spot alongside the Rocky River just off the New England Highway near Uralla.

There are two camping areas fairly close to each other however I have never seen more than two people camping at this spot at one time. They are very well shaded and quite spacious.

The toilets are very primitive, although they do the job...

The rocky river is only a creek in this section, but the sandy shore and large granite rocks make for some nice little (shallow) swimming holes.

Fishing

Friends have told me of catching perch just downstream from here, although I have not done so myself. There are definitely yabbies in there though!

Fossicking?

The reason it is called the fossicking area (rather than just Wooldridge Reserve) is that you can pick up a couple of specks of gold from the creek. You can hire/borrow pans from the Uralla Visitor Information Centre (on the highway in town).

If you are agile, and don't mind a bit of rock hopping, head upstream for some quite interesting rock formations. Don't lose your step though as the gaps between the large granite boulders would hide your body for a long time...

If you are a bird watcher, before you leave town, head over to Dangars Lagoon where there is a bird hide. Head east on the Walcha Road for about 4km and the reserve is on your left. Over 110 different bird species have been spotted here.
