Truely a unique experience, camping on the waterfront, on an island, in the middle of Sydney Harbour.

This is the most central campground you can get in Sydney, only 15 minutes by ferry from Circular Quay.

Cockatoo Island has a long history and exploring it is one of the privileges of camping on this Island. In 1839, it was decided to turn the island into a prison barracks, and convicts were used to do the construction. Much of this work still remains. It was also later used as a ship building facility (until 1992).

Back to the camping... The simplest option is to camp on the Northern Side of the Island (all waterfront sites) where you bring all your own gear.

If you are a bit lazy (or don't own any gear) you can book a camping package. Your tent has already been put up by the time you get there, all you need to bring is your bedding and a torch.

For the less adventurous, you can even try your hand at "glamping" (stands for "glamorous camping") in the large canvas tents, with access to a full camp kitchen. There is even a two bedroom tent option for keeping the kids out of the parents area.
