About Lake Yarrunga and Tallowa Dam

A stunning stretch of water on the Sholehaven River right near Kangaroo Valley (about 200km south of Sydney).

Kayaking and Canoeing

This is a perfect spot for kayaking and canoeing as the dam is closed to power boats. It borders on state forest / national park so for most sections you are paddling through un-spoilt shorelines and could easily imagine that you were here before white man arrived.

The water is clean and clear. We used to run a drinking tube straight into the river rather than carry a water bottle when paddling here (not really recommended but I never got crook).

Tallowa Dam Recreation Area

This is a beautiful picnic area right near Tallowa Dam Wall, with disabled toilets, picnic tables, electric barbecues and access to the water for fishing or launching a canoe or kayak. A map of the picnic area is available here
