About Royal National Park

Just to the south of Sydney, the Royal National Park is (arguably) he world's third oldest National Park after Yellow Stone in USA (1872) and the oldest Bogdkhan Uul in Mongolia (1778).

Just south of Cronulla, this 16,000 hectare park includes spectacular coastline

Walking

There are plenty of marked walking tracks within the park to suit any fitness level, from short paved tracks to overnight 20+ km tracks

Bungoona lookout is a short (500m) wheelchair accessable path that leads to the scenic lookout over the river and surrounding national park. Werrong Beach track is a short (2km) heads down the sandstone cliff, through lush rainforest and ends at the secluded Werrong Beack (note this is a designated nudist beach).

The Karloo Walking track (5km) which leads to the Uloola Falls. This walk is accessable from Sydney by public transport (take the train to Heathcote Station) and would make a great day trip to have a nature fix when staying in the city. The walk passes a great swimming hole (Karloo Pool). If you are into overnight hiking (tramping for you poms), the Coast Track follows the sandstone cliffs and beaches and offers the opportunity of spotting a whale during the migration season. Flora, Fauna and Geology

The park includes sandstone cliffs on the coast, steep gorges, wateralls and rocky outcrops. Royal National park includes areas of rainforest, wet eucalypt forests, grassy woodlands and coastal heathlands as well as a number of fresh and saltwater wetlands. These areas are home to over 240 varieties of birds, 43 native mammal species and numerous amphibians and reptiles.
