This area is separate to the regular campground and you will not have exclusive use.

Approx time - 3hr 30min

Grade - Medium.

The group area is a large open area, within the Elliot Ridge hike-in campsite, catering for up to 6 x 2-3 person tents, with a maximum of 18 people.

Each campsite is approximately 3.5 x 3.5 metres and will fit:

1: 1 x 3 man tent

2. 2 x 1 man tent

3. 1x1 man tent & 1 x small 2 man tent.

The Great Ocean Walk is located on the edge of the Southern Ocean and is truly in the hands of nature and all of its weather extremes. Choose from hike itineraries of two, three or four days or take the whole walk, hiking up to eight days covering approximately 100km.

The walk is one-way, moving in an east-west direction- always towards the Twelve Apostles.

GROUP PLANNING: It is not possible to book Great Ocean Walk hike-in campsites for more than 18 people.

Three options for camping include,

1. Individual camping for Great Ocean Walk purpose-built Hike-in campsites: 12 people in up to 4 (3 person tent) sites;

2. Small-Group camping areas, Great Ocean Walk Hike-in purpose-built (max 18 people) Small-group-areas are NOT available at Johanna, Ryans Den and Devils Kitchen hike-in campgrounds. The small group-area sites are larger and more open and accommodate eight (6) x 2-3 person tents. The physical impacts of group-camping is a challenge to maintaining attractive camping areas and positive walk experiences. Hike-in campsites are not available for exclusive booking of both individual and small-group areas; and

3. Off-walk, but nearby.

TIP: Car-based park camping is CLOSE BY at Blanket Bay and Aire River. Bush camping is not permitted in the Great Otway and Port Campbell National Parks. If you are interested in booking a large group size exceeding 18 please call the Parks Victoria Information Centre for advice and recommendations. Call Parks Victoria on 13 1963.

Please note: Toilets at Blanket Bay and Aire River Great Ocean Walk campsites are nearby at in the national park car-based camping areas.

CAUTION: It is your responsibility to be absolutely sure of tide and wave swell conditions. Beach and coastal walking should ONLY be attempted during low-tide and calm-sea conditions. River crossings and rock platforms often become impassable at high-tide or with large wave-swells. You may need to wait or turn back.

Cancellation Policy

Groups larger than 18 people CANNOT camp on the Great Ocean Walk and will have difficulty securing camping in the area during the peak walker seasons (October-April).

Bookings terms and conditions – Great Ocean Walk Prices are in $AUD and include GST. Sites can be booked up to 12 months in advance of date of arrival. All bookings and payments are non-transferable.

Refund Policy

In the event of a cancellation by the applicant the following cancellation fees apply:

30 days prior 50% cancellation fee. Less than 30 days prior 100% cancellation fee. No Transfers.

Full refunds will be payable if a campsite is officially closed by Parks Victoria as a result of an emergency or other exceptional circumstances.

•In all such cases refunds must be sought within 30 days of the first camp night booked.

•A copy of the receipt must be attached to the application.

•Refunds will not be available in cash.

TIP: Groups of more than 18 people have access to a range of alternative accommodation and camping providers along the walk in the Apollo Bay Cape Otway and Princetown areas.

• To ensure hiker safety it is important that you inform Parks Victoria if you do not complete any section of your intended hike. If for any reason you do not complete your hike please contact the Information Centre as soon as possible (tel. 13 1963).
